Chief Master Sergeant JAMES L. BROWN

Chief Master Sgt. James L. Brown is the command chief for the Puerto Rico Air National Guard, and as such, manages the enlisted force and represents their interests at all levels. He serves as the personal advisor to the commanding general on all issues regarding the professional development, readiness, training, utilization, health, morale, and welfare of the Airman assigned to the PRANG. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the command senior enlisted leader, USNORTHCOM Joint Task Force Civil Support. Chief Brown served as the chairman of the Air National Guard’s Enlisted Field Advisory Council and was a member of the Air Directorate Field Advisory Council and the Strategic Planning System Council representing 91,000 enlisted members.

Chief Brown entered the Air Force in 1985. He was assigned to Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont., as a nuclear security specialist. He was transferred to Woensdrecht AFB, Netherlands then Wuesheim AFB, Germany where he served as a Ground Launched Cruise Missile nuclear security specialist. His military background includes numerous leadership roles at squadron, group, wing, deployed command, combatant command, Joint Forces Headquarters, and with the State Partnership Programs.

Chief Brown was mobilized in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM, NOBLE EAGLE, ENDURING FREEDOM, SOUTHERN WATCH and COVID-19. Chief Brown is the recipient of numerous awards and decorations for leadership, distinctive accomplishments in support of Security Forces activities worldwide, and for joint civil-military operations. Chief Brown retired after 32 years in law enforcement as a Chief of Police.
